This Sunday we had the kids sing special music in church. They stood proudly in front of the microphone, singing out loudly while doing the actions of the song--this was all before anyone had arrived. When they had to actually do it in front of people, they got "stage fright"! We had to (practically) drag Lucas up front, and then Eliana did nothing but stand there :-(. By the second time through the song (a Jon and Holly special), Lucas did start to sing; but, he also kept swinging his arms and whacking the microphone stand. Nervousness I guess. Oh well, we tried, anyway. Maybe next time we'll talk about it more and practice several times with other people present.
Yesterday I took Boomer to get his teeth cleaned. Since he had distemper, his teeth are missing their enamel and the tartar seems to build up pretty easily. The procedure was expensive (his teeth don't really look that different either), so I think I'll start brushing his teeth more frequently :-). Can't you just see it, "Boomer, come brush your teeth before bed!" :-)
Talking about the procedure, I mentioned that the vet would put Boomer to sleep with gas and clean his teeth. Lucas was concerned that Boomer wouldn't wake up again, but I told him that the vet knew how much gas to give him. Ellie thought it was funny that they were going to use "bad gas" (flatulence) to put him to sleep. I think I maybe should have explained that it was a different type of gas. :-)
School is going well. Except that now, Lucas asks why we have to do school every day (he used to ask if we could do school every day!). His capital "B" is looking better, and he wrote out "Bogota, Colombia" without any balking at the "B". So, maybe we're over that hurdle!
This weekend we have a special couples dinner for "Love and Friendship" day (like Valentine's day, but here it's in September). A couple from our church is from the island of San Andres, and they are making the food. Obviously, it's going to be seafood! (and most of you know how much I "like" that! :-() However, the couple approached me on Sunday and asked if they should prepare something different for me (somehow they'd heard that I didn't like fish). How sweet! I told them that I had eaten fish while we were in Cartagena, and that I had liked it. I told them to prepare whatever they had planned and that I would eat it. Hopefully I don't have to eat my words!! (I'm a little nervous that shrimp will be on the menu--I don't think I'm prepared to try that yet!!) So, maybe in my next blog I'll have pictures of the new foods I've tried! :-)
