Boyd Bear Tracks

This blog has been created so you can track us Boyd bears down and peek in at what we're doing. Just don't touch the porridge!

On Sunday evening we arrived home to discover "snow" in our garage. Curiously, it was only in our garage and nowhere else! Come to find out, Boomer decided to rip up his bed while we were gone :-(!! So, we had foam all over the garage, the garden and in the doghouse. I am banned from buying him anymore "luxuries," as Jon calls them. I was just trying to provide the best care for my dog which he didn't appreciate, so that's what he gets!

On Tuesday we started our first day of Kindergarten. Jon beat me to the picture with the prayer letter, but I'll include one anyway! It has seemed to go really well. Ellie has enjoyed playing with beans (the whole time we're in school!). Jon said it would be really funny if she were happy playing with beans for the whole year :-). It'll probably only last for the week, then she'll want a new distraction.

Lucas is struggling with writing his name with only one capital letter (he used to write it with all capital letters, and not between lines either). But, I think he's starting to get the idea. He wants to constantly be "in school". After lunch the first day he didn't want to do rest time because we needed to "finish school". Plus, in the morning he comes in and asks when I'm going to get up so we can start!

We usually start at about 8:30 a.m. (after all the pets are taken care of). We finish up Histoy and Science after rest time (while Ellie is taking a nap). So, it's a pretty full day! Then, after they go to bed I start looking over the lesson plans for the next day. At least, so far, it's not as much work as when I taught before. Maybe it's because there aren't 15 papers to grade for each subject :-)!!

Lucas told Jon his favorite subject was Martin Luther (from Hero Tales). That's interesting, because from what I've read in the Sonlight Forums, a lot of kids are bored out of their minds when they sit and listen to the book (they ARE Kindergarteners!). Lucas went on to tell us the reason Martin Luther was his favorite . . . he liked the part where Luther cut his leg with a sword, and the fact that he was almost hit by "that thing from the sky" (lightning). :-) So, I don't think that Lucas has grasped the important part Luther played in our history; but, at least he's latched onto some interesting facts :-).
