Boyd Bear Tracks

This blog has been created so you can track us Boyd bears down and peek in at what we're doing. Just don't touch the porridge!

At last our website is up and running again (as you can see :-))! I thought I would include some pictures of the kids' programs the church youth group put on.

Lucas is with some of the boys from the orphanage (he was a little overwhealmed with all the new people). It was an all boy orphanage; so, Eliana and the Alonso girls kind of stood out :-). We had a great time! I also got to see the church in Perdomo (where we were working before we left in 1993).
Funny story: We weren't sure where the orphanage was, so the pastor told us it was right across the street from the Perdomo church. Plus, he gave us a map. As I was looking at it, I told Jon that if I was reading the map correctly, the church wasn't far from where it had been when we were there. As it turns out, the church was able to buy some property about 7 houses down from the house in which the church was started! Needless to say, I didn't need the map :-)!

Eliana's picture is at the kids' program at church. She's next to her little buddy Abigail. They are so funny together! They take turns "nursing" each other or combing each others' hair. They're quite the pair! The program went well, the only glitch was that the puppet recording was really hard to hear (before we had used a microphone). But, I think the kids had a good time.

My Sunday School class is going well. Sunday was the last day I had Catalina as my helper. She did the whole lesson, and did an excellent job! Next week I get a new helper, Milena. It should be interesting since her brother is in my class. Plus, as I was thinking about it, Lucas will be moving into my class in the next few months! When I asked him if he was excited to be moving to my class he said, "Yes, because then I'll get a treat" (he knows about my "treasure box").

The vet finally said I could start taking Boomer out on walks. I guess he's not contagious anymore :-). I've been working with him, teaching him to walk with me on a leash (as opposed to pulling me). The first day was a little rough, but now he's doing better. The only difficulty is that whenever he sees another dog, he wants to go play with them.

The other day two big dogs came over to check him out. Boomer seemed pretty worried, but I wasn't. Then, later, I started thinking about what I would have done if they had ganged up on him and I did get worried :-)! Maybe we'll try to steer clear of dogs for a while (until he gets bigger).

Boomer is a fast learner. I've been teaching him to sit when he comes to a curb (before crossing a street). We've only gone on walks for three days and he's already starting to sit when we get to a curb :-). Sometimes I wish our children would learn obedience as quickly :-)!
