This was probably the busiest week since we've been here. All week long, in the evenings, the church in Chia had special meetings. Jon spoke two or three times. All of us went Monday and Friday nights, but the kids could not have handled every night. Just taking them to two of the meetings (at night)really took a toll on their behavior and health. Jon went to more of the meetings than we did.
On Saturday, I HAD to go grocery shopping (plus get a couple of things for my Sunday School class). I don't remember where Jon was, but I took both kids with me. As soon as we got in the store, Lucas vomited. :-( At least I didn't have any groceries in the cart yet! I made sure to go pick up a bowl, so that if it happened again we would have a container. Poor Lucas, he told me he just wanted to go home. I did too, but I really needed to get some things. I tried to hurry, and did miss some items on my list, but I didn't have time to look for them (they weren't the essentials I needed right away).
Needless to say, only Jon went to the youth meeting that afternoon. He said he really missed me helping him with the guitar :-). I guess the singing didn't go so well, but at least they tried. Lucas was sick (the way Ellie had been before) for the rest of the day.
Fortunately, on Sunday he seemed to be doing better. Thankfully, because both Jon and I were teaching Sunday School classes. Then, at lunch, he was acting like he didn't feel so well. I was on my way to the bathroom with him when he told me he needed to "spit up". Then, he did! All over both of us! Fortunately, I had some extra clothes for him in the car (just in case). The sad thing was, I had the bowl (that we bought while grocery shopping) right in my hands. I just never had a chance to get it near his mouth :-(. Oh well, it builds character, right? On Monday he was doing fine and, besides a smaller appetite, didn't have any other problems.
My Sunday School class went well, and all the kids behaved (which was nice!). We had a surprise party for Resurrection Sunday. They all thought it was someone's birthday.
This Saturday, the Lord permitting (as they say here), we'll be going to an orphanage in the South of Bogotá. The Chia youth group is joining up with another church youth group to lead games and a couple of puppet plays. I already told the kids we would be going. Lucas asked what "orphanage" meant. I explained that it was a home where there are kids with no parents and who are waiting for someone to adopt them (Lucas knows the word "adopt" from when we adopted Boomer :-)). So, when he prayed that night, Lucas asked God, "Please help Mommy and Daddy adopt a boy and a girl so Ellie and I don't have to be by ourselves and can have someone to play with." It was really sweet! However, I told him I didn't feel ready to adopt anyone right now. I think he just wanted some playmates (he wasn't thinking that they would be like brothers and sisters).
I took Boomer to the vet yesterday and the vet was pleased with his progress. He told me to come back in a week to give him his shots. I wasn't sure if he said a week or ten days, so I asked the owner (Betty) what he had said. She didn't know either, so I said, "Oh well, I'll just come back in a week. It can't hurt." And she said, "Sure, come back whenever you want. All the times you want to." (it really cracked me up :-)). Of course they'd like it if I came every day since every time I go I pay them money :-)! I am pleased with their service though. In fact, they don't charge me for the consultation. I just get a list of medicine they perscribe and have to buy that (which of course, they have on hand :-))! I'm just glad that Boomer is going to make it.
