We finally finished school the day before Lucas' birthday. We'll probably have 2 months of vacation before we start up again.
Since we were "going strong" up until the day of Lucas' birthday, I didn't really have time to get everything together for the birthday party. So, the day of the party I was running around trying to get everything I needed for the party. I ran out of time, and as the first guests were arriving I was just starting to ice the cake. And, I had to send Jon out to get Lucas' present since I hadn't been able to get to the store. (Just a note: I had to visit 2-3 stores to get what I needed and none of those stores had toys. Sometimes I wish I had a store where I could get everything in one place--WALMART??!!) It was a crazy day! But, what else is new? :-)
Lucas wanted a swamp theme for his party. We played several games like "shoot the crocodile" (with a dartboard), "slime eating race" (jello), and "wrap the swamp monster" (otherwise known as toilet paper mummy). After the game, Lucas ended up becoming a toilet paper swamp monster himself! :-)
After I finally got the cake iced, I was able to relax and have a little bit of fun at the party. Lucas seemed to have a great time. He was happy that he got to invite all his friends--including a boy from a family with whom Jon has studied the Bible. I think Lucas was the winner of most of the games :-). He must have picked ones that he was good at!
Lucas the swamp monster
It has been raining a lot lately. A couple of times the drain in the back has stopped up and flooded the patio. It almost got to my boxes which are on a little ledge. Fortunately, the rain stopped and my plunging of the drain seemed to get that going again.
It's been hard to leave the house (or get back if we were gone) because two of the roads on the way to our house are usually rivers. We just have to "ford" the road and then make sure to wash our feet really well when we get home (the water does NOT look clean). Apparently the whole city doesn't have any gutter system. The water just runs down the roads to the ocean.
I'm thinking of making myself some stilts so that I can walk across all the "rivers" I have to cross if I'm going anywhere. :-) Or, my other idea was to carry around a trash bag and then just hop across the "rivers" like a sack race.
