Boyd Bear Tracks

This blog has been created so you can track us Boyd bears down and peek in at what we're doing. Just don't touch the porridge!

There is soooo much to write about. I'm just going to have to keep it short so that I can put in a lot of pictures. No one will complain about that.

First of all, earlier in May, Marcos got his first haircut. Once again, my child looked like a Kewpie doll by the time he got his haircut (I think Lucas and Ellie did too :-)!). Here are the before and after pictures. I didn't realize how long his hair really was!

Maybe he doesn't like the haircut?!!! Actually, it was about bedtime by the time we got everything together and finished. So, he was pretty tired and wanted nothing to do with the camera (or his highchair) by then.

Also, Ellie had her 7th birthday. This wasn't her year for a party, but I still made her a special cake. She wanted a marshmallow horse. That was the only requirement!! So, it really was a pretty easy cake to make. The only difficulty was that I made the icing the night before so it was too stiff. So, I thought I would add some milk and re-beat it. Well, apparently I added too much milk because it was awfully runny. In fact on the sides of the cake it went slipping down onto the board. Oh well, at least it added to the grass and dirt effect :-)!

One thing Ellie wanted for her birthday was for me to paint her finger and toe nails. Here she's showing off my expertise :-). Maybe I should go into business? Nah!! :-) I have enough to do. Her other present was a parakeet of her very own. At first she named him Apple-y, but now I think she's settled on Larry. We're working on finger training (teaching him to sit on a finger). He has been getting a little less wild every day. Ellie is happy because she is in charge of the parakeet. She gets to feed it, change the bathwater, work on finger training, and clean the cage. She doesn't like dealing with the poop too much. She's a "wash your hands every two minutes if you feel you've touched anything remotely yucky" person. But, I think she feels grown up to be able to be in charge of something.

And now. . .another creature we found in the living room. I'm not sure exactly if it's a wolf spider or a baby tarantula. I think it is a wolf spider. Whatever it is, I wasn't too pleased at finding it in my house! On Saturday I found a centipede (a big one--four inches or so) in Ellie's room and I smashed it but it was still alive. So, I fed it to the spider. I think I like centipedes less than spiders. The spider has become kind of like a pet. At least I feed and water it (so far :-)).

No, he's not standing on my finger (I'm not that brave!). He's in a little aquarium and my finger is on the outside.
