Marcos just had his first birthday this month. I tried for the first--and probably last--time to decorate the cake with fondant. It really doesn't have much taste, AND you have to ice the cake with another icing before you use the fondant. Soooo, it will be too much work to make two different batches of icing (especially when I won't have the option of pre-made icing). Another difficulty was that the fondant was so heavy that it pulled the duck's head down until it was touching the base. I used a ton of toothpicks to try to get it to stay, but it wouldn't. Needless to say, we cut the head part off and didn't eat it--too many toothpicks to try to eat around :-)!But, despite all the "cake-problems" we had a great time with family! Marcos was a little serious while he opened his presents, but I think it was because he was ready for his nap. He did perk up when he opened his musical dog (it sings "Do your ears hang low? and its ears flap up and down). He loves music!
Earlier in the month, Lucas was involved in his first AWANA Grand Prix. He and Jon worked on molding the car, and then I helped him paint it. Actually, he colored it with markers first and I just copied his design for the paint job. It turned out nice! I think he got like 7th place. He wasn't very happy that he didn't win, but it was a good experience :-)!
For Thanksgiving we were able to spend time with Jon's family. And then, on Friday, Mom Boyd and I got up early and went to the Black Friday sales. I had never gone before. It was pretty amazing!! The whole parking lot was full at 5:30 in the morning and practically all the sales I was looking for were gone--they opened at 5:00 a.m.!! I even saw mothers in there with their children (in pajamas). It was quite the experience! I had never seen such long checkout lines! Actually, it did remind me of "quincena" in Colombia. Every 15 days they get paid and you definitely don't want to be shopping on that day! So, if you wonder what "quincena" is like, just go to a Black Friday sale! :-)
Ellie had the use of Grandma Boyd's camera for the holidays and was organizing everyone for photo-ops. Maybe she'll be a photographer some day :-). She's excited because she just finished her SPARKS book and will be getting her book award soon.
