Well, we made it back to Bogotá. This time all of our suitcases showed up so we didn't have to run around the airport trying to find them (like the first time we came to Colombia). Plus, none of the kids got sick. So, it really turned out to be a good trip! I'm sure it was because there were a lot of people praying for us! :-)
Also, no one said anything about the fact that we had oversized carry-ons (as big as they could be, and right about at 40 lbs.--as heavy as they could be). The biggest problem was that neither Lucas nor Eliana could carry their carry-ons :-). It's a good thing they let people with children load first because we took a long time to get organized. Then, we were the last ones off the plane so that we didn't block the aisle for 20 minutes :-).
Let me see if I can describe it to you . . . Jon goes first with 4 bags (you're allowed one carry-on and one personal bag each). I really don't know how he did it, but some of the carry-ons rolled. After Jon goes Lucas with a rolling carry-on and a personal bag on top. Then Ellie with a grocery bag with coats and water cups and other odds and ends. Then, I bring up the rear with the diaper bag, a carry-on and the baby. Were you counting? I think we actually had nine carry-ons if you include the grocery bag :-). I think the first plane was the hardest. We didn't have our routine down yet so we blocked the aisle for a little while -- all the carry-ons were scattered down the aisle.
But, like I said, we made it and no one got sick. At least on the plane. The next day Jon was sick with altitude sickness and I was having stomach troubles. Both the older kids got headaches, but I guess I gave them the medicine in time because it didn't progress to vomiting. Marcos has been out-of-sorts ever since we got here, but I just discovered the reason . . . he's getting his one year molars (aaargggh!).
Yesterday we went to get our yellow fever shots at the airport. Of course that had to be an adventure too. We went on the bus and it was pretty full. Fortunately, a couple of people gave us their seats so the kids and I could sit down. Then, we got to the airport and found out we didn't just need the kids' shot records, we also needed identification (i.e. passports--which we had left at the guest house). So, Jon went back to get them and the kids and I ate lunch at the airport.
Marcos barely cried at all (I stuffed a fruit roll-up in his mouth right as she stuck the needle in). Ellie turned white as a ghost (I think needles scare her). Lucas just stood there and took it. Of course, Jon and I had both gotten ours first so they knew it didn't hurt too much.
So, now we just have people to visit and our shipment to prepare before we go. Oh, and I guess school would be good too :-) --I just need to dig that out.
