Well, a lot has happened in the last two months (since I last blogged). We've had two birthdays and traveled a ton of miles. But, overall it's been fun!
First, Ellie's birthday. . .
I decided I would pick the cake and party theme since I am beginning to be severely challenged by my older childrens' requests for cake themes. For Ellie I decided on a Hawaiian Luau. It was a colorful and fun theme. I made a sand castle cake. I was surprised at how easy it was to put the cake together. Here I can just get the ready made icing and decorator icing (not like doing it all myself in Colombia). That made the cake making and decorating extremely fast! The sand castle was peanut butter ball batter that I stuffed in an actual sand castle mold. That was easy too (and tasty!).
Ellie had a great time! She wanted to invite the Carters for her party so we had quite a few kids running around during the treasure hunt :-)! Oma had one of her special "flame" candles so that really lit up the party!
Now Lucas' party. . .
Really, his was not supposed to be a party. Several years ago I decided that they would take turns having a party. One year it would be Ellie's turn, then next Lucas'. So, this was her year for a party. However, when you're around so much family, when they all come it ends up being like a party. Of course, we didn't get special paper plates or gift bags or anything; and, he didn't invite any guests (other than family). But, it was still fun!
For Lucas I decided that I would make a Transformers cake. He's been somewhat interested in them of late so I thought it would be a good pick. However, as I was decorating the cake he asked me why I hadn't made him a tractor cake (he just went to a tractor show with the Mains grandparents). Oh well, I did tell him that I was picking the theme this year :-)! It's supposed to be Optimus Prime (one of the Transformer leaders). Amazingly, it did transform . . . into individual pieces for each person to eat!! :-)
Oma had one of her famous "flame" candles for Lucas too! Here you can see him blowing all the candles out.
Marcos hasn't really been doing anything new lately (unless you count not sleeping through the night anymore :-(!). He's just been adding to his repertoire of new foods. He now eats: sweet potato, avocado, oatmeal, rice cereal, butternut squash, peas, carrots, and egg yolk. Next week we'll start yogurt. He loves to eat and I usually have to decide when I think he's had enough! He loves drinking water from a sippy cup and gets upset when you take it away. Actually, that is something new -- he has started protesting when you take things away from him! (Sigh. . .I knew it would happen sometime!) But, generally he's a pretty happy baby.
