Boyd Bear Tracks

This blog has been created so you can track us Boyd bears down and peek in at what we're doing. Just don't touch the porridge!

Well, I said wouldn't invite a lot of people to Lucas' party and I didn't. I didn't invite anyone! However, I decided that while we were doing the teacher's workshop in Tunal we would celebrate his birthday too. So, I planned for 60! We probably only had about 30, but at least we didn't run out of anything!

Since we're in the middle of the World Cup we had a soccer theme (besides the fact that I already had soccer napkins). Also, it's pretty easy to make two sheet cakes into a soccer field :-). I found little treat bags with soccer balls on them, so the kids could have something (and it fit in with the theme).

All the people in the class sang "Happy Birthday" to Lucas (including the special birthday version they have here). Unfortunately, he became very shy and was hiding behind me. When I asked him why he had hidden, he said there were too many people looking at him :-). I guess he doesn't like to be the (absolute) center of attention. It was fun though, and everyone was happy that they could celebrate Lucas' birthday with us.

On his actual birthday (Sunday), Lucas got to open his presents. It was kind of rushed because we got home from church late (later than usual) and then were going to another church in the evening. Usually, by the time we get home from the evening service it's past the kids' bedtime, so we couldn't open presents then. Eliana had fallen asleep in the car on the way home, so I had to wake her up for the "ceremony". Of course, with all the excitement and after such a long day, Lucas got one of his headaches and was sick again (fortunately, at home). So, the poor guy was sick on his birthday. That'll teach us to have any fun! :-)

On another note, I haven't heard anything from the vet yet so we don't have our kitty. :-( Eliana asks me almost every day when she will get her kitty. I'm beginning to wonder too. Eliana has begun to say "I Bungee" and then she crawls around the house acting like a cat :-). It used to be "I Woody" (and Lucas was Buzz Lightyear).

I'm getting excited to start school. I've decided we'll begin September 5 (I think it's the day after Labor Day). I've organized all the material; now, I just have to organize the "school room" :-(

Of course, that's not my only project (I usually have quite a few things I want to do--I just need the discipline to get them done!). I bought some paint and want to decorate the kids' rooms. I'm going to paint blue stars in Lucas' room and then stick some glow in the dark stars on top of them. I'm planning on doing flowers and butterflies in Eliana's room. If and when I get it done I'll post some pictures! Maybe now that I've put it in writing I'll be accountable and get it done :-)! Heidi very kindly brought some star and flower stamps when she came, so it shouldn't be to hard to dip the stamp in paint and put it on the wall :-).

Thanks to all of you for remembering the kids' birthdays! I know they were very special to them (if only for the cards and presents--hopefully that will change as they get older).
