Boyd Bear Tracks

This blog has been created so you can track us Boyd bears down and peek in at what we're doing. Just don't touch the porridge!

My plan was to start school about the middle of September, but my plan fell through. First we traveled to Ecuador, then we had a visiting missionary family, and then we all got the flu! So, by the time we made it through all that, it was the end of September. So much for starting the day after Labor Day :-)! I'm not worried. We have always finished the required number of days even when we had a new baby and moved during the school year.

I do have to admit that it is a little more challenging with a toddler (again). But, I found a box of math manipulatives from a curriculum we don't use anymore and that has become Marcos' "busy-box". It has worked so far. The only difficulty is that I have to play with him a bit to get him interested. Once he's concentrated on his "work" I can leave and focus on the other two.

Marcos has started saying some new words. Of course, they're all in his "language," and not so very clear for people who are not from his family.

  • He has finally started calling Jon "Da-da". For the longest time Jon has been "Ma-ma" :-).
  • Lucas is "Bah-bah" (brother, I think)
  • Ellie is "El-lah"
  • Boomer is "MMM-mer"
  • Larry is "Wauk-wauk" (Actually that's what he calls all birds. It's a duck noise)
  • Any motorized vehicle, but especially the motorcycle is "BRR-BRR, I?" We think he means he wants to ride.
  • "Please" is now pointing to his lips and saying "bea" or "bih"

Marcos has moved to his bed in Lucas' room. But somehow he always comes into our bedroom about three in the morning and ends up in bed with us. I don't know how he does it. He has to walk down the dark hallway, into our dark bedroom, and--without bumping into anything--come to my side of the bed to touch me so I'll lift him into the bed. His bedroom has a night light but the whole rest of the way it is DARK! He must not be afraid of the dark because he never cries for me to go and get him. He just shows up next to our bed!

Lucas and Ellie started swimming again. It's nice that they get exercise because then they don't bounce off the walls so much :-). I think I need to find something for Marcos to do. He gets wild sometimes running and banging into the closet doors or the wall. I think he likes the noise it makes.

Jon and I have started an English conversation class with our neighbor hoping that we can become friends and be able to share the gospel with her. Also, this month we'll be starting an "Impact Group" at our house on Wednesdays. So, there's never a dull moment :-)!
