Boyd Bear Tracks

This blog has been created so you can track us Boyd bears down and peek in at what we're doing. Just don't touch the porridge!

Today was a big day! Lucas read his first book! Of course, it was only about five words long; but, it is a book and he read it! Now he'll read a new book each week until the end of the school year. It's pretty exciting! (Yeah, look at all the exclamation points! :-))

We also were learning about the ancient Egyptians so we made Egyptian collars. Lucas now wants to learn to speak Egyptian :-). They both wore their collars as "bibs" at lunch. But, that didn't last very long because it was a little uncomfortable trying to put food into their mouths :-).

Last week we took Bungee to Tenjo (the little town outside of Bogota where the Carters are ministering) and he had his surgery. I found out it was A LOT cheaper out there. So, no need to worry about him wandering away now :-). He stayed overnight with the Carters and then they brought him back to us the next day. He was soooo cuddly for the next couple of days. I thought maybe he would become a really calm, loving kitty. But, lately he's been back to his wild ways. Oh well, at least I had a little cuddle time. Sometimes when he's tired out he still comes and sits in my lap (but, he just runs away from the kids).

Poor Boomer hasn't been allowed to play with Bungee because I figured he needed some recovery time. So, Boomer has been outside a lot. And, it's been raining so I haven't been taking him out for walks. Jon did take him on a jog today, but when he came home he said, "Boomer is wild!"

I have been thinking about getting a racing harness for him (Boomer that is :-)). I've been researching "bikejoring" which is basically like "mushing" but with a bike instead of a sled. Jon thinks it sounds dangerous. I guess it could be, but it's a lot better than using roller blades! (which I did for a while) Boomer just needs an outlet for all his energy. I don't think that a daily walk will do it (especially if there are no dogs around to play with).

The kids and I have started working on our program for Thanksgiving. We'll be getting together with the other missionaries. Laura Carter decided that it would be neat to do something special (if only just so that our kids have some memories). So, the kids are reciting some verses and singing a song (about a sad turkey :-)). I don't know how this is going to go. They can't seem to stand still, and are usually goofing off. Maybe they'll be better with a real audience (not just mom). Although, it could go as "well" as their special music at church :-(.
