Fortunately this surgery was not performed on one of us. But, it was caused by one of us. . .someone by the name of Lucas!
Last week he was upset about something Jon had told him to do, so he went into his room, slammed the door and locked it. We would have had a problem anyway because we didn´t have a key to his door. However, to make it more complicated, the latch broke so the door couldn't be opened from the outside or the inside. So, Jon and I had to perform "surgery" on the door. It took us 45 minutes, a saw, screwdrivers, a drill, and pliers to get it open (while Lucas was crying in his room because he thought he'd be stuck there forever). We almost got to the point of breaking the door down.
So, we used the teachable moment :-) to reinforce the fact that it's not good to "throw fits" or respond in anger. Hopefully that lesson will be ingrained (from actual experience).
As I was writing this Lucas asked me what I was writing about. When I told him, he asked why I was writing "bad stuff" for people to read. I told him that his Grandpas and Grandmas (and other people) would be happy to hear that he learned a good lesson. Plus, (after the fact) it's kind of funny. It wasn't while we were trying to pry the doorknob off!
