Boyd Bear Tracks

This blog has been created so you can track us Boyd bears down and peek in at what we're doing. Just don't touch the porridge!

We've had a couple of things happen that were unexpected and a little nerve wracking this past week. One night I was frying up some potatoes for french fries and the oil spilled over on the burner. It's an electric stove but it still managed to light on fire. Lucas was clear across the room, but he was terrified (I didn't think he would eat the fries when they were done). He was crying and screaming (especially when I added more potatoes to fry). He asked me if they have firefighters in Costa Rica :-). Of course there are, but I don't know how soon they would get here if I had called them. It's a little different without an actual address, just a couple of sentences to describe where our house is. I don't know that they've ever had addresses here so they're pretty good at knowing where your house is. . .approximately. Anyway, I turned off the burner and moved the pot to another one, but it still managed to flare up a couple of times :-(. It took a while to calm Lucas down. He kept talking about wanting to run out the door and run to Daddy (Jon wasn't home at the time).

The second exciting thing was that Lucas found a snake in the backyard! It wasn't very big, but I was thinking. . .where there's one, there's always another (not a pleasant thought for me). I did catch it and put it in a water bottle (poor animals that come to my house--they'll always be caught and bottled up for a couple of days). I'm not sure what kind it is, but I think I've heard there are no poisonous snakes in San Jose. I can only hope!

Ellie is starting to copy what we say more often. Today she said "God, rain" meaning God made rain (which is what I had just told her). It was really cute!! She also says "Lucas" now (she says it perfectly!). When we ask her who she is, she says "Ellie". Her favorite phrase is still "What?" although she's added "Que es eso?" (what's that).

We're still battling colds. But, they seem to be getting better. At least none of us have had a fever. :-)
