Boyd Bear Tracks

This blog has been created so you can track us Boyd bears down and peek in at what we're doing. Just don't touch the porridge!

Whew!! It's been awhile since I could sit down and write something on my Blog! But finally, I'll update you all on Lucas' birthday.

He decided he wanted a pirate theme. I sort of helped him decide since I thought a pirate ship cake would be a lot easier than some other things he suggested.:-) Once again, it couldn't be TOO easy. I had decided to make a chocolate cake (since he loves chocolate), but after buying all I needed I realized that the frosting was going to be chocolate too (brown for the boat color). Finally I decided that a chocolate/chocolate cake wouldn't be too bad (maybe a little rich). However, on the day I was going to frost the cake I realized I didn't have enough powdered sugar. I ran to the store and searched high and low, but I couldn't find any! I finally asked someone for help and they showed me where it should have been, but they were out (figures!). Fortunately, I found some pre-made frosting so I bought a couple containers and I was ready to go. I think I paid an arm and a leg, but desperate times call for desperate measures! At least I managed to get the cake frosted before the party began!

Here are the "mean" pirates that invaded our house (obviously some of the pirates didn't hear about the "mean" part :-)--see their smiles?

I found instructions to make balloon cutlass' so each pirate got to have a cutlass. They had a ball fighting out in the patio. Unfortunately, if any balloons hit the plants they popped. So, we had several swordless pirates after a while. I did make them a new one right before they went home so they could beat on each other in the car :-) (just kidding--so we wouldn't have sad little pirates).

Here's Lucas getting ready to blow out his candle.

And, I just couldn't resist making a cake for July 4 while the group from Campus Baptist Church was here. I thought I would make "Uncle Sam's" hat. Well, something happened because I used one cake mix for each layer and they both came out the same height even though they were in different sized pans. I don't think anybody guessed what it was (or maybe they were just giving me a hard time? :-)). It did taste good anyway!

Somehow, one of the group members managed to bring some sparklers. How they managed to get through all the airport scanners with sparklers in their suitcase I'll never know. But, the kids had a ball with them (I don't know if our kids had really ever played with a sparkler before).

We had a great time with the group! Even though I had never cooked for so many people at one time everything went well. Of course Karina helped me a lot, and the group was always pitching in too. So, I really ended up acting as a supervisor (Yeah, I got to boss people around!--Nothing out of the ordinary there, right Heather and Heidi? :-)).

Now I'm still trying to dig myself out from all the laundry I didn't do, and trying to empty my fridge of all the leftovers (we'll be having spaghetti for a while :-)!). There are quite a few stories from when the group was here, but I'll leave that for another post (if I remember :-)).
