Well, despite all my fear and trepidation, Lucas went to camp. So, on Tuesday I began to pack up the house. I know it´s a little early; but, since I need to keep plugging away at school, this week is a good week to get ahead.
I say Tuesday because Monday Ellie and I went to camp too. We took the cat to the vet to get spayed and so we hung around for the rest of the day until she woke up. It was crazy! People kept asking me if I was going to stay the rest of the week and help :-)! Nope! However, I´m sure that they are doing fine now. After all, it was only the first day.
One funny thing, we were in such a hurry to get things done and get out to camp that we forgot that we have Pico y Placa (Peak and Plate) on Mondays--that´s when were not supposed to drive at certain times. So, we were out running errands for like a half hour before we should have been out. Fortunately, we were using roads with less traffic, so there were no policemen to stop us. By the time we realized what we had done, we were at a gas station and it had just become the right time for us to be out! Of special note. . .just beyond the entrance to the gas station I noticed two policemen; but, we had turned into the gas station and hadn´t gone past them. Thank you Lord! That would have been a pretty hefty fine!
Jon said that Lucas is having a great time at camp. He´s very tired though--bedtime is 10:30 P.M. and wake up time is 6:30 a.m.! Lucas did have one of his headaches this morning, but when I called later he seemed to be doing better.
Ellie is a wonderful child! She has been no trouble at all and is actually enjoying watching me pack. I never realized before how easily she entertains herself. She hasn´t even really seemed to miss Lucas (I thought she would be bored out of her mind!). Of course, she´s always monitoring Mijke so she doesn´t jump around too much (she had 3 stitches, but now she has 2--I´m hoping that I won´t have to take her back in to put the stitches back!).
I guess I´ve shared a couple of good stories, so now I can share a bad one! We apparently had mice or rats in the closet where all our boxes were. I was packing my cuckoo clock and discovered all these torn up papers (some of which were the instructions!). Then, I discovered that most of the packing material for the clock was missing too! AARRG! I knew I heard something in that closet before. I haven´t taken all the boxes out, so I hope I don´t find any surprises. Maybe I should lock Mijke in there for awhile!
