Boyd Bear Tracks

This blog has been created so you can track us Boyd bears down and peek in at what we're doing. Just don't touch the porridge!

The moth finally hatched! I was surprised because I thought it had died. Unfortunately, we didn't see it come our of the chrysalis. I just came home from a ladies meeting and noticed that there was a bug in the caterpillar box. It was the moth. I'll post some pictures later, but it was pretty ugly. I can see why they may call it a Hag moth. And, as I was doing some research on what a Hag moth looked like, I found out that the caterpillar spines are poisonous. Good thing I never touched it!! We let the moth go the same night and then found another (different) caterpillar the next day. I haven't found out what this one eats so it may not become a chrysalis. Nothing like "science from your backyard" :-).

We still have the big spider I caught. I've been catching flies for it. Now that I've fed it I don't feel comfortable flushing it down the toilet. But, I don't want to let it loose either (at least near our house). As they say here "me he encariñado" (I've become attached). Some would ask how you become attached to a spider, but he is really fuzzy (like a teddy bear) :-).

Graduation is coming up (on Friday) and the Carters will be graduating. They'll be our co-workers in Colombia. We'll be sad to see them go, but there are two more families and a single girl (from ABWE) coming this next trimester. So, even though I'm sure the kids will miss their friends (Jackson and Makayla), they'll gain some more mk (missionary kid) buddies.

Jon and the kids have been working on making movies. Jon uses the camera (30 sec. video) to make videos and then joins them all together to make a 1-2 minute video. They've made David and Goliath, Noah, and Superman. The best one (I think) is the Superman one. Lucas is Clark Kent and he wanders around looking for "bad guys". Then he runs to the closet and the next scene he comes out as Superman. Then you see distraught Ellie asking him to save her baby. . .from a tree!! What is a baby doing in a tree anyway? Actually, Ellie didn't look that distraught. Jon wasn't mean enough to make her actually cry for the video :-). Maybe we can get some footage and add that clip later :-). Lucas loves making movies and has big plans to make Jonah someday.

Last Saturday we took the kids to a gymnastics class. A lady in our church works there and invited us. They loved doing somersaults and bouncing on the trampolines. Lucas enjoyed swinging on the rings and playing in the "foam pool". It actually is a huge hole in the floor full of foam blocks. It's so the kids can practice on the uneven bars without falling and getting hurt. I didn't jump in, but it sure looked fun. It's not really very expensive to join the class (they meet every Saturday), but it is far from our house so getting there seems costly. We may do it every once in a while, but I don't think it will be a routine experience. It did make me realize that our kids have a lot of energy!! If only I could bottle it up and drink a little every once in a while :-)!
